5 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Planning Your Bridal Party Hair

There is a lot to think about when planning a wedding, but don’t let your wedding hair get overlooked or left to the last minute! Trust me!

As the proud owner of Bridal Hair in Hampshire, I’ve had the pleasure of transforming countless brides on their special days and I have some useful tips to help you avoid some of the most common mistakes I see brides make when it comes to their wedding party hair.

Leaving It To The Last Minute

On the morning of your wedding, you want to be enjoying the beautiful time with your friends and family, not stressing about what your hair is going to end up looking like.

Schedule in trials well in advance of your big day, to ensure you have plenty of opportunities to try out different styles, communicate your desires to your stylist and be confident that they can create the look you’ve always dreamt of for your special day.

I recommend booking your trials in as soon as you’ve booked your venue and found your dress so we can get to work bringing your dream wedding hair dream into fruition.

Not Considering Your Dress

Brides-to-be can get so fixed on a hairstyle they think they want without considering if that style compliments the beautiful dress they’ve chosen.

If you have chosen a dress with an intricate or dramatic back, it’s important to consider how your hairstyle will complement it. Here are some suggestions:

1. Up-do: Consider an up-do hairstyle, such as a bun, chignon, or braided up-do. This will keep your hair off your back and allow the dress to take center stage.

2. Half-up, half-down: If you want to have some hair down but still showcase the back of the dress, try a half-up, half-down hairstyle. You can gather the top half of your hair and secure it with a stylish clip or hair tie, while leaving the rest of your hair down.

3. Side-swept style: Create a side-swept hairstyle where most of the hair falls to one side, away from the back of the dress. This will create a soft and romantic look while still showcasing the dress.

4. Loose waves: For a boho-style dress, loose waves can complement the look beautifully. You can create soft waves using a curling iron or wand and then gently brush them out for a more relaxed and effortless feel.

Neglecting Your Hair’s Health

It is crucial to start taking extra care of your hair as early as possible to help your tresses look their very best on the big day. Focus on hydrating and nourishing it often along with deep conditioning treatments and regular trims. Also, make sure you plan in any colour refreshes at least a week in advance of the wedding day, to allow the colour to settle.

It should go without saying the weeks leading up to your wedding is not the time to be experimenting with drastic changes to your hair or your hair care routine! Don’t make this mistake!

Not Considering Your Bridesmaids

We all know you are the star attraction on the day, but the rest of your bridal party will also be part of the day’s aesthetic, so coordinate with them to either ensure they compliment your style and look, or organise for them to also have their hair done on the day too. That way, if you desire, you can ensure a unified appearance that will make for stunning photos that you will be fond of forever.

Forgetting About The Weather

If any part of your day is outside, you should put in place ways to overcome any potential problems the elements could bring. Discuss potential problems with your stylist and maybe consider styles that can be fixed more securely and look at stronger products that will hold for longer, giving you confidence that your hair will look fabulous all day.

With so much to think about in the planning of your special day, it’s so easy to forget how important your hair can be to your confidence, comfort on the day and to the pictures and lasting memories. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can prevent any unnecessary stress and just enjoy your day.
