5 Romance Novels to Inspire Your Wedding Planning

Wedding planning is an immersive experience. For those months or years, you live and breathe your wedding. This isn’t just because you’ve no doubt got a long list of things to organise, it’s because you are constantly riding the waves of the excitement!

During this time, you’ll get inspiration and ideas from everything and at the most random times. So, why not change up your bedside table mini-library for a romance novel? Sad, happy, or an emotional roller-coaster, romance novels are addictive because they make us feel.

Reading a book that captures your imagination can be a great way to give your brain a rest from wedding planning, spark a bright idea, or even reframe your own love story.

Take a look at my suggestions and then head over to your local bookshop or click the links I’ve provided to buy online!

The Proposal – Jasmine Guillory

There are a few Jasmine Guillory books that could have made this list: The Wedding Party and The Wedding Date in particular. With brief cameos from their respective characters in each book, you can play a game of I Spy if you read all three. The Proposal was also a chosen pick for Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Book Club! The story follows Nikole, whose very public proposal doesn’t work out as well as her boyfriend had hoped. Their lives are turned upside down, and Nikole is thrust into the comforting arms of a doctor named Carlos, but this impulsive rebound isn’t as simple as it seems…

Outlander – Diana Gabaldon

I get it, the size of the Outlander book series is intimidating. This first one is a hefty book, and the corresponding television series is just as long. But, if you’re willing to commit, delving into the time-bending life of Claire, who is thrown from her married life in 1940s England into the harsh reality of 1740s Scotland, feels like a whirlwind of emotions. Here, she meets Scottish warrior James Fraser, who makes her question her comfortable life, whether passion or fidelity is more important, and where she sees her place in the world… and time.

It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover

A modern tale to draw you back into modern times. It Ends With Us follows Lily’s attempts to change the object of her affection, Ryle’s, views on dating. While she seems to succeed at first, the obstacle of past love threatens to send them off-course. An easy read, this book will have you re-evaluating why it is that people are the way they are in love and relationships, and what it takes to break those old resolutions and escape past experiences.

Call Me By Your Name – Andre Aciman

This is another romance that has recently been adapted for the screen, this time achieving wide critical acclaim in the cinema. The romance between young Elio and his parents’ American guest Oliver is like no other, and intensity and passion runs through every sentence. If you enjoyed the film, you’ll love the book; but if you’re new to the title, I guarantee you’ll love it too. Enjoy the heat of summer on the Italian Riviera, and lose yourself completely in an uncynical, unbiased exploration of how obsession and desire can change your life completely.

The First Bridgerton Novel, The Duke & I – Julia Quinn

By now, EVERYONE has probably either heard of or watched the Netflix original series Bridgerton. Well, did you know there are actually eight Bridgerton novels? Each focused on one of the Bridgerton siblings? I know, that’s a lot of books and a lot of siblings. The Duke & I is Daphne’s story. If you watched the series, don’t worry, the book differs in some very integral ways, meaning you can enjoy both separately. For those that are unfamiliar, The Duke & I introduces you to the large and characterful Bridgerton family. Violet Bridgerton is searching for a love match for her eldest daughter, Daphne, but when Daphne makes a deceptive deal with the dashing and in-demand Duke of Hastings, Violet’s plan to marry her off might just fall apart.
